Sorry to hear about the issue with your Whirlpool washing machine. As you know, I'm away at the moment and will be for about four weeks. I don't have access to the Whirlpool data right now, but let's try to work through the fault together.

If you're pressing the start button and the power to the display is intermittent or cutting out, there are a few potential causes. First, check that you have a stable 240-volt supply going to the printed circuit board. There are two wires coming out of the electrical suppressor or filter in the top right-hand side of the machine. Use a multimeter to measure the voltage when pressing the start button. If the voltage drops, you might have a faulty filter, suppressor, or a bad connection on the feed into the appliance.

If you have a stable voltage at the machine, then there may be an issue with the circuit board. Inspect it for any dry joints on the solder contacts and look closely at any resistors or diodes that might appear damaged. Without a wiring diagram, it's tough for me to give more specific advice, but check all wiring for loose connections or damage.
