Washing Machine Suggestion

Customer Question

Hello Paul.Thank you for all the videos that you make to help us. I'm writing you from Germany to ask you something. I'm looking for a washing machine and the ones I liked would be a AEG 7000 ProSteam WiFi / 11 kg, but it would be about 300 euro more expensive than a LG F4WR703Y 13 kg. I would like to buy the LG because of the capacity but, in Germany we have in a German company which tests all kind of machines and they write about LG that are bad quality. For me is strange, why would LG make bad quality machines when they have such a competition with Bosch and Miele? I think it's just because of money 🤔. Now I found you videos on YouTube and I wanted to ask you because of you experience, what would you buy for yourself? Thank you very much in advance and have great day.

I will try and help with this suggestion about your washing machine need,

Good morning! That's a great question. Top companies from the last 20 to 30 years built their reputation on quality machines in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. However, the industry's decline has sped up because manufacturers are building in too much obsolescence and not supporting the public as they should. They're only interested in selling machines. Today, a washing machine lasts between 5 and 7 years.

Let's break down some companies:

AEG is part of the Electrolux group, which also builds Zanussi. AEG makes reasonable quality machines. The technical information available is good, but they still build in obsolescence. In the last decade, most of their machines have sealed drums, so you can't replace the bearings. Their spare parts are reasonably priced and of decent quality.

Bosch, Neff, and Siemens are the same company. They are German-owned but manufacture in other European countries. Pre-2005, they had a great reputation for quality. If I could go back in time, I'd buy a Bosch from 2005 but not today. Their spare parts are very expensive, and they provide no technical information to the public, only to their engineers.

Miele has produced quality machines but at high prices. In the last 10 years, their quality has declined while prices stayed the same. They used to include wiring diagrams and technical information with their machines but not anymore. Their spare parts are extremely expensive compared to cheaper brands.

LG is relatively new to Northern Europe but impressive. They put genuine part numbers on components and make drums accessible for bearing replacement. However, finding technical information is still challenging.

Considering all this, if you're saving 300 Euros on a machine, think logically. The average lifespan is 5 to 7 years. If you're unlucky and it lasts only 4 years, you'll need to replace it. Save your 300 Euros and maintain the machine well by not overloading it, using correct detergents, and keeping the filter clean.

I would choose an LG machine. It's not that LG is better than European brands; it's just that they focus on repairability more than others do nowadays. I hope this helps answer your question!
