I will try and help with this problem about Smeg SA9066XNG Cooker Oven,

Hi Ben, thanks for the information about your Smeg cooker. If an element or multiple elements are causing an earth leakage greater than the consumer unit can handle, it will trip and cut off the electricity.

I can't rely on the measurements you're giving me because I don't know the meter or any other details. I always suggest to customers that if they isolate those elements and the oven stops tripping, then that's likely why it was tripping when they were connected.

I understand it's costly to replace both elements, but at least you'll know they meet the RCD's milliamp standards and won't cause further tripping. Usually, if you disconnect a cooker element and it's still tripping, it shows the short is happening elsewhere. But if you disconnect the elements and it doesn't trip when turned on, this usually means the elements are faulty when connected.
