I will try and help with this problem about Smeg BU93S Double Oven Cooker,
Hi Nick,
Thanks for your question. I’ve managed to get an exploded diagram of your cooker, which helps understand its functions. The tall right-hand oven seems to have only a fan oven element and a fan motor. There are two thermostat cutouts at the back: one at 90 degrees and another at 190 degrees. You should check both.
For the left-hand oven, if there’s no power at all, it might be due to the selector switches.
These are shown on the first and fourth pages of the diagram as part 96231. These switches control the oven’s functionality, and the thermostats plug into them. Inspect the selector switches for any burnt damage, as this is a common issue when people turn them quickly, causing wear over time.

Also, check the timer. If the relays in the timer are faulty, they could stop power from reaching the oven. You’ll need to check all cutout thermostats, wiring, selector switches, and timer relays. In my experience, the most common issue is with the selector switches, which fail frequently.
I'm not sure how to access this model of cooker exactly. You might be able to do so through the side panels, but I think you need to remove the top of the hob. Be careful with the screws holding the hob in place; they can corrode over time due to electrolysis and snap easily. If that happens, you’ll need to drill out the screws and tap new threads for larger screws—a lot of work.
I hope the exploded diagram helps identify the problem. The small oven has only a grill, while the oven below has just a fan motor and fan oven element. The large oven has only a fan oven element and a fan motor. There are various safety cutout thermostats at the back of the cooker and some that control the cooling fan.
Good luck with your repair! I’ve also included some videos below to help you understand some of these issues better. Taking apart this range-type cooker will be challenging.
All the best,
Paul
