Samsung WF90F5E5U4W/EU Washing Machine Stops In Mid Cycle & LCD Not Displaying
Customer Question
Glyn asks:
Just found your site - outstanding. Reason i was looking was because my Samsung WF90F5E5U4W/EU Washing Machine finally decided not to power up on Xmas eve. Had been stopping in middle of a wash with no display on LCD, but if turned off and left for bit would come back on and finish wash. Had a very kind washing repair man round who took the top off looked at it and said - common fault with main pcb boards and not worth repairing - didn't even check the fuse! I gave him his £30 call out fee and off he trotted. My question is - is it worth having a look at the board, it appears to be covered in a transparent silicon, or take a chance and get a replacement board which seem to be available from a number of suppliers. I have been involved with electronics for many years so throwing away what looks to be a perfectly good machine does not sit well with me.

Hi Glyn,
Thanks for contacting us about your Samsung washing machine problem. You mentioned the engineer took the top off. Did he check if there was electrical feed coming to the circuit board from the power supply? If not, you need to follow the wire from the back of the machine through the electronic filter and suppressor up to the circuit board. Disconnect the plug, then use your multimeter on it to measure for 240 volts. One wire will be live and the other neutral.
If there is power at the circuit board, then it is likely a circuit board issue. But don’t worry, it's not a write-off. You can replace the circuit board. I’ve provided links above for your machine, but note there are five variations. The most cost-effective way is to use your model number or the genuine part number on the circuit board to search on Facebook Marketplace or eBay for a similar machine with other issues like bearing, heating, or motor problems.
Checking if these circuit boards can be repaired can be tricky because of the silicon covering them. This silicon can make it hard to see and fix components and electronic tracks. Sometimes, it’s just a dry joint where solder has broken away, causing intermittent faults. I explained this well in a video below about intermittent faults.
Repairing a silicon-covered board is tough, but manufacturers do this to protect from moisture, though it can cause overheating too. Anyway, I’ve linked spare parts and information on intermittent faults that might help you.
Good luck with your repair!
