Hi Mark, sorry to hear about the problem with your Samsung washing machine. Let's go through some basic checks. First, make sure the machine empties all the water from the drum. Sometimes, an intermittent emptying fault can cause issues. I've added some videos below about this fault.

You mentioned seeing four dashes on the display. I'm not sure what that means since it's not an error code. But you said you can hear the motor running. There are two motors in the machine: the drive motor and the pump motor.

If it's the drive motor you hear, you can check by taking off the back of the machine to see if it's rotating. If the motor turns but the drum doesn't, there might be a problem with the shaft assembly. The spline could be stripped, causing this issue.

If the motor isn't turning at all, it might be due to no power reaching it. This could be because of metal fatigue on the wires at the base of the machine, which is common. Or it could be a problem with the hall sensor.

Since I don't have your full model number, I can't tell if your machine has a separate hall sensor or if it's built into the circuit board. There are four variations of this machine, so check before ordering any parts.
