Samsung WD1704RJE2/XEU Washer Dryer 3E Error & Drum Completely Locked

We bought our Samsung WD1704RJE2/XEU washer dryer in 2013, it has been working perfectly since. Last March we moved to a new house that had already a washing machine installed. We decided to store it in the garage. Recently we installed it in the laundry room and tested a rinse and a spin program on an empty drum, it worked fine, then we put a small load of laundry and run a delicate cycle. The machine stopped right before the last spin and displayed 3E error code. We drained the machine and noticed that the drum is fully locked and we are enable to move it even for a mm left or right.We opened the top and back of the machine. Everything looks clean, no sign of leakage or rust but the back plate of the direct drive motor is completely stuck.When we choose a program the machine start normally and fills up with water, we hear a humming noise of the motor but the back plate is not turning.This washer dryer has an unsealed drum unit.Is it worth repairing?Thank you in advance for the great service you are providing us.Really appreciated.

Hi, thanks for your question about your Samsung washing machine. First, please don't use the machine until we get the drum moving freely, as you could damage the motor.

Let's start by checking for any small clothing items lodged between the inner and outer drum. Open the washing machine door, grab a good torch, and look through the perforation holes in the drum. You might spot something this way.

If that doesn't work, you can also remove the heating element and the sump hose at the bottom of the machine. This will give you a better view inside the drum. If you still can't find anything, it might mean one of two things: either an item is lodged somewhere you can't see, or we need to split the drum in two for a proper inspection. Though it involves some work, it's worth doing.

Another possibility is that the drum spider has collapsed, or if the machine has been unused for a long time, the bearings might have seized up. Unfortunately, there's no quick way to determine this without stripping the drum.

I've also obtained an exploded diagram of your machine with reference numbers for each component. This will help you match parts to their genuine part numbers, which usually start with DC. Once you know what’s wrong, you can use these numbers to order parts. Samsung has done well in the industry, building a good reputation. They have had some faults, but I think it would be a great opportunity for the company to start enhancing the Right to Repair Act by providing end users with more technical information so they can repair machines themselves.
