Customer Question

Jim Fox asks:

Hi Paul, my Samsung DV70F5E0HGW Heat Pump Tumble Dryer starts to operate but will stop randomly at any time during the cycle even sometimes after only a few minutes. The display goes of completely as though there is no power and it is impossible to restart the dryer unless I pull out the plug and wait say 3 plus mins. if I retry several times evenly the machine will then run and complete the cycle but not always. Do you think it is a motor capacitor problem or something else ? your help would be much appreciated.

Hi Jim,

Sorry to hear about the problem with your Samsung heat pump tumble dryer, model number DV70F5E0HGW. These dryers can be tricky to diagnose. From what you’ve described, with the machine display cutting off completely and no lights illuminated, it usually indicates an issue with either the circuit board or the power supply.

First, check the 240-volt power going into the machine at the point where the cable connects to the electronic filter, usually in the top right-hand corner of the machine. From there, it goes to the circuit board. Follow these two wires and test the voltage. If you have 240 volts, then there is likely a problem with the circuit board. There might be a dry joint on one of the solder tracks or a failing component. However, it's hard for me to assist without seeing the machine.

Many Samsung machines have circuit boards encapsulated in silicon, making it difficult to view solder connections and tracks. But it's worth checking. There are 14 different variations of your machine, so before ordering any parts, ensure you have the full model number and identification number from the label, usually inside the door or on the back of the machine.

I've also started making heat pump videos to help understand how these systems work and how to diagnose problems. You can find these on my page below.

Unfortunately, I don't have workshop manuals or wiring diagrams for this machine as Sampson is not good at providing this information to independent repairers or the public. This is a common issue in this industry because some manufacturers want only their engineers to have this information, making it hard for people to repair machines themselves.

I don’t think there’s an issue with the motor capacitor since that would still leave the electronic display illuminated if there were motor problems. A blank display usually means a problem with either the circuit board or power supply.
