Miele W5740 Washing Machine Drum Noise & Warning Error
Hi Paul we spoke the other day when I purchased a motor from you for my Miele W5740 washing machine. I paid a "Pro" come round and diagnose that my motor had gone and was going to be £500 to repair. I watched your video and it looks pretty straight forward to repair. I bought your motor and fitted it. Job done I thought. It still screeches and warnings flash. I don't know if you can remember taking apart the Miele w5740 with the broken spider, did it screech? Was that the drum rubbing the heating element ? Before it shuts down the drum does look a little asymmetric when it turns. Im thinking it may be going? The sound does seem to come from the right hand side as you look at the machine from the front. I cant think of any other moving part that might be causing this.Do you think something may be stuck in the drum? When you move drum by hand I cant hear any scraping.Any help or advice would be great. If you would like to call me again to discuss that would be great. Many thanksAlex
I will try and help with this problem about Miele W5740 Washing Machine,
Hi Alex,
Thanks for sending us the information. I'm not sure why the engineer suggested your motor had failed if it was still turning. If the motor bearings are fine, that wouldn't be the issue. You can test this by removing the belt and running the machine without it. The motor will keep turning, and you can listen for any noises. Even without the usual load, you should get an idea if the motor is faulty.
I'm sorry to say you may have been misdiagnosed. If the drum is slightly warped, that could be causing the screeching noise. Check if the drum lines up at each point of the spider and see if there's any movement. With the door open, look at the back of the drum and you'll see three indentations where the spider sits. This aluminium part holds the steel shaft to the drum with aluminium supports. If any of these are fractured or damaged, it could cause screeching as the drum catches on its outer part while rotating. This would be more noticeable with a heavy load.
Other possible faults include ensuring the machine empties within the allocated time. The screeching noise might come from the pump if small elastic bands or similar items get wrapped around the impeller, causing noise and leaving water in the drum after a rinse.
Without seeing the machine, it's hard to diagnose precisely. Feel free to contact us; you have my phone number now. I'm happy to do a one-to-one WhatsApp call or FaceTime to help you fix the problem. These Miele machines are well-built and worth repairing if possible. However, if there's an issue with the drum spider, it's a big job, especially without all necessary tools.
I hope this helps. Feel free to reach out anytime.
