John Lewis JLTDH21 Tumble Dryer Belt Broken
Customer Question
Julian Kirby asks:
Hi Paul. Great videos and very clearly presented. Want to replace belt on my John Lewis JLTDH21 heat pump tumble dryer but not sure on easiest way. After top and sides off, is removal of front or back easiest for getting new belt on? Also missing the pulley tensioner circlip. I can probably find a replacement, but wondered if there's any bush or spacer that might also be missing (and now inside my hoover)? Does the pulley wheel have quite a bit of float on its shaft? Many thanks. Julian
Model: Jltdh21
Paul Says:
I will try and help with this problem about John Lewis JLTDH21 Tumble Dryer,
Hi Julian,
Thanks very much for the compliment; it is much appreciated. These John Lewis machines are mostly built by Electrolux Group. I've found the workshop manual, the wiring diagram, and several videos to help you.
Because it's made by Electrolux, any of my Zanussi, Electrolux, or AEG videos about tumble dryers will be useful. To get the belt on, I suggest loosening the bearing at the back and then sliding the new belt over. It won't be hard to find a circlip for the pulley wheel, but it's crucial that the pulley wheel has no side-to-side play. This keeps the belt on the motor shaft in the right spot and allows it to stay straight on the drum. Any movement in these pulley wheels can cause problems.
You now have the full workshop manual and many videos to assist you. If you need more help, feel free to contact us. I'm sorry, but I'm still travelling. I'm currently in Northern Holland, near the islands just below Denmark. I'll be here for a few days before catching a ferry. I'll be back in the office next week, so you can call me then.
You also mentioned that your Hoover tumble dryer has some float movement. I have many videos on my YouTube channel about pulley wheels on these tumble dryers. They do wear out over time and will need replacing, but most parts are always available.
I've put a link above to any parts you need for your John Lewis tumble dryer JLTDH21. Also, while replacing any components, make sure to use your vacuum cleaner to clean up as much dust as possible. Many ducting pipes inside will need cleaning, including those running from the door down to the condenser.
I haven't made a video yet on these heat pump tumble dryers, but I might start since all manufacturers seem to be producing them now. Even though I'm not a big fan of heat pump tumble dryers, I hope I've provided all the information you need to get your tumble dryer working again.
