Indesit IDCE8450BHUK Tumble Dryer Takes 3 or More Cycles to Dry a Small Amount of Washing
Customer Question
Ken Cox asks:
I have Indesit IDCE8450BHUK tumble dryer and recently : cleared all fluff, fitted new water pump following error code. Fitted new thermostats to heater. Tested both heater elements with multimeter and they are working.Producing a lot of heat at start of cycle ( first 5 minutes) but suspect it is not heating after that. Water is collecting in the container. It takes 3 or 4 cycles to dry a few small hand towels.I mainly use program 7 Synthetics and this always used to dry washing in the 55 minute cycle ( including a fairly large load of socks/underpants. However now drying takes much longer. It produces high heat (registering 2.7/2.8 kWh) for approx. 5 minutes at ther start but appears not to produce much heat for the rest of the cycle. According to my smart meter it occasionally draws around 1.5 kWh for 5-10 seconds then drops again - but this is not enough to heat the washing.I have tried a high heat program (e.g. Jeans) and it dries the washing however I do not want to 'fry' more delicate items.I was wondering if there are sensors that may need a clean or some other reason that is causing the problem ?Thanks

I will try and help with this problem about Indesit IDCE8450BHUK Tumble Dryer,
Hi Ken,
Sorry to hear about the problem with your Indesit tumble dryer, model IDCE8450BHUK. The heater may be cutting in and out for a few reasons. One possible issue is with the moisture sensor. There are different types of sensors, but the diagrams I have don’t show which one your machine has.
You might have bars inside the drum that detect moisture. These bars can get covered in a film from clothes over time, making them unable to sense moisture. You can clean these bars. I’ve added a video on our YouTube channel about cleaning moisture sensors on tumble dryers.
Another possibility is an NTC sensor, which also reads moisture levels and could be faulty. Another reason for the heater cutting out could be inadequate airflow through the machine. Make sure the condenser box and all air passageways are thoroughly cleaned. Any blockage can cause a temperature sensor to turn off the heater due to poor airflow.
You can also try setting the machine to a timed sequence instead of a sensor sequence. Set it to 30 minutes and monitor if it heats correctly. If it does, then a sensor might be detecting incorrect moisture levels.
Before replacing any parts, try these steps first. I’ve included some useful videos and exploded diagrams of your machine on the page. There’s also a link at the top of the page to find parts for your model. Remember, there are six similar models, so you’ll need the full identification number from the ID plate inside the door or on the back of the machine.
If you need more help, feel free to contact me. I'm currently travelling across Europe visiting appliance part manufacturers, so it might take me some time to respond.

UPDATE FROM THE CUSTOMER:
The new thermistors seem to be giving much better temperature control even though resistances of the new components were very close to the old.
