I will try and help with this problem about Indesit CYDA81WWGL Vented Tumble Dryer,
Hi Peter,
Sorry to hear about the problem with your Indesit tumble dryer, model CYDA81WWGL. The issue with the heater not working could be due to a few different reasons. Let me explain the main causes and the steps you can take to resolve the problem.
One common reason for this issue is the safety cut-out thermostat. These thermostats are designed to protect the machine from overheating, but if the airflow through the dryer is restricted, they can trip. Some machines have a resettable thermostat, while others use a one-shot thermostat that needs replacing once it’s triggered.
It’s important to check the airflow in your machine. Start by cleaning the lint filter, which should ideally be done after every load. You should also inspect the vent tube at the back of the machine. These tubes can get blocked with fluff, squashed, or even damaged, restricting airflow and causing the heater to overheat. If you find any issues, clear the blockages or replace the vent tube.
Another common issue is fluff buildup inside the machine’s ducting system. Over time, this can restrict airflow and cause overheating. I recommend using a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly clean the internal ducts every couple of years.
The heating system in your tumble dryer is located at the back of the machine and is fairly simple to access. It usually consists of two or three thermostats and a heating element. You can use a multimeter to test the continuity of these components and replace any that are faulty. If you don't have one you can get a new multimeter via our affiliate link.
I also recommend letting the dryer finish its cycle without interruptions. Constantly opening the door to check on clothes can disrupt the airflow over the heater and cause the safety thermostat to trip.
