Hi Paul, sorry to bother you. I have a Hotpoint NTM1192XBUK Heat Pump Tumble Dryer. Been going through your back catalogue of YouTube how to’s but can’t find anything on my issue. Initially thought problem was sump pump. Stripped and cleaned as per your recommendation. Pump works to move water (although seemingly only at beginning of cycle.) Dryer runs, but never warms up and load remains wet. Gets to 9 mins left but doesn’t end. Always been well maintained, filters cleaned virtually every load. Was fine until water full light started coming on. Cleaned and checked pump but following this I’ve got no heat now. I’m happy to dismantle but was hoping to put into auto test mode in demo, but button combination doesn’t seem to produce SEt? Any ideas very much appreciated. Happy to contribute to beer/wine/coffee fund.All the best , Stewart

Hi Stuart,

Sorry to hear about the problem with your Hotpoint heat pump tumble dryer, model number NTM1192XBUK. These dryers are great when new, but they can develop problems over time. Even if you clean the machine and keep the filters clear, some fluff always gets down to the condenser and evaporator coils. This area is moist, so fluff sticks and builds up, causing the machine to become inefficient and leading to blockages.

Modern machines now have multiple filter systems because manufacturers know about this issue, but it still happens. If your heat pump tumble dryer isn't getting warm, it usually means one of two things. Either the compressor isn't running due to a sensor failure that starts the compressor and refrigeration process, or the compressor is running but not generating heat because it has lost gas.

If the compressor has failed or lost gas, it's often uneconomic to repair it since the repair costs can exceed buying a new dryer. I'm sorry to give you this bad news, but that's how the industry is now. I always tell my friends that vented or condenser tumble dryers are better options even though they use more energy. Heat pump tumble dryers cost a couple of hundred pounds more than other types and take years of energy savings to justify the extra cost. Plus, when they break down, they're usually unrepairable due to high costs, unlike vented and condenser dryers which are easily fixable at an affordable price.
