Hotpoint H3D91GSUK Condenser Tumble Dryer Belt Keeps Moving Over Against the Tensioner on Reverse Cycle

HI I have a strange problem with my HOTPOINT H3D91GSUK condenser tumble dryer it’s a Hotpoint H3D91GSUK and the SN: 802418003153The dryer is just around 12 months old and the problem I am experiencing is that the belt came off and was all chewed up on the side an engineer replaced it under warranty but it shortly did it again I have replaced the belt myself but noticed its perfect when the dryer rotates clockwise but when it rotates anticlockwise the belt moves over towards the front of the machine and hard up against the guide tensioner and the ribs of the belt skip over the motor groves so part of the belt is on the flat part of the motor shaft my suspicions are on the guide tensioner being at fault but it seems ok no wear or excessive play in the bearings any advise would be very welcomed as it makes no sense to me at this point lol Kind regards James

Hi James, sorry to hear about the problem with your Hotpoint H3-D91G-SUK condenser dryer. You mentioned that the belt is moving off the alignment system on both the tensioning wheel and the motor. An engineer replaced the belt when it came off.

First, check if the motor is properly fixed to the base of the machine. Ensure that the plastic it's bolted to is not damaged. The motor shaft should be at a 90-degree angle to the drum. If it's at 94 or 95 degrees, the belt would move to the front of the machine. If it's at 80 or 82 degrees, the belt would move to the back because of improper alignment.

The pulley wheel should take up the slack between the belt and motor shaft. It has plastic lips on its sides designed to keep the motor belt square on the drum. This suggests you might have an alignment issue.

It's hard to be certain without seeing your machine, but I'll make a quick video to explain further. I'm currently in the Sahara Desert, heading towards Western Sahara and Mauritania, but I'll record a video when I stop for coffee.
