Hotpoint H1D80WUK Vented Tumble Dryer Not Heating Up

We've had this Hotpoint H1D80WUK tumble dryer for a few years and had this problem twice before. Someone came to fix it and simply reset the thermostat by (I think) pushing a reset button.It's happened again and I can't afford to get him out again,so I'm trying to do it myself. I have the thermostats exposed but can't see a hole for the reset - voutube videos show a hole in the centre of the thermostat.Any ideas how I move forward?

Hi Roger,

Sorry to hear about the problem with your Hotpoint tumble dryer. If your dryer is overheating, it will trigger the safety cut-out thermostat on the back of the heater. Some models have a reset button, while others have a small pinhole inside the thermostat that needs to be pressed to reset it. Make sure the electricity is turned off before you attempt any of this.

Now, let me explain why this is happening. If the machine isn't maintained properly and the ducting systems clog up with fluff, it can cause the heating system to overheat and trip the safety cut-out. Another common issue is not allowing the machine to run its full cycle. If you open the door mid-cycle to check if the clothes are dry and then remove them without finishing the program, it can cause overheating. The last 10 minutes of cooling down are very important.

Please make sure that whoever is using the machine lets it complete its cycle and that all ducting systems are clean. If the filter area or other parts get blocked with fluff, it causes problems.
