Customer Question

Donna Davis asks:

Hotpoint FETC70 Tumble Dryer works for so long then screams, then stop and starts. Also if the door is open and I press to start, the same noise appears. Screams from pump area, after so long then intermittently continues. When the door open and timer on so activated but door open and press start it screams equally as the pump

I will try and help with this problem about Hotpoint FETC70 Tumble Dryer,

Hi Donna,

Sorry to hear about the problem with your FET-C70 tumble dryer. First, note that your full model number usually has a few extra letters and can be found on the identification plate. There are 5 variations of this machine, so if you need any parts, make sure to use the full model number.

I've added some videos below that may help you. If you're hearing an intermittent screeching noise from the pump area, it might be because the pump has fluff inside or is damaged. The pump works when water collects at the base and moves it to the collection tray at the top. Screeching noises are common when pumps are damaged or have debris. It’s worth inspecting, removing, and cleaning the pump as shown in the video.

Also, check the exploded diagrams at the bottom of the page. There is a bearing system at the back of the machine that wears out over time. The shaft system can get damaged too. In the diagram, 503 is the bearing and 541 is the shaft assembly kit. The phosphorus bronze bearing is designed to wear out but can wear faster if excess fluff builds up inside.

When repairing, it's good to service the whole machine. Use an old paintbrush and vacuum cleaner to carefully remove all dust from inside, especially around the motor and front ducting system (part 337). Fluff can build up here too.

Inspect the pads at the bottom of the machine (part 350). These pads wear out and sometimes need replacing. The machine is basic to work on and not too complicated.

The pump system in the diagram is part 634. There's a float that activates a switch, which also needs proper cleaning. Clean inside the ducting area thoroughly. Take the heat condenser (part 637) outside and clean it with a hose pipe in both directions to ensure proper airflow for both hot and cold air circuits.

Water drains into the collection bowl (part 600). Clean both fan blades; especially part 614 at the front, as fluff can stick to them causing imbalance.

Servicing these machines is very important. I've put links above to all needed parts and videos that are helpful for maintaining your machine and fixing your pump problem.

I hope this helps you!
