Hotpoint BHWM129 Washing Machine Worn Drum Bearing Suspected

Hi there!I had a quick question that I would like to ask you. Is it possible to replace the bearings on this Hotpoint BHWM129 washing machine? I came across a youtube video which said that the plastic drum was welded together rather than been bolted / clipped together with a seal, which meant that it the bearings could not be replaced? This is a common question, and I often find myself giving the same answer. Manufacturers are now building obsolescence into their machines, and sealing the drums is part of this strategy. It's baffling because there's no financial gain for them, apart from ensuring the machines don't last as long. It's a disgrace.

I've been in this industry for over 40 years, and it's disappointing to see all manufacturers doing this to sell more machines. We're supposed to be moving towards sustainability, but this practice is just the opposite.

Regarding your problem, some people cut the drums to gain access and then reseal them, but it's a lot of work and not recommended. I found exploded diagrams of your machine, and I believe the drum is part number C00145181. Please double-check that this is the correct drum for your machine before purchasing. You could look on sites like eBay where engineers sometimes sell off excess stock, and you might find a drum for £60-70.

Another affordable option is to use your model number to find complete machines with electrical problems being sold cheaply on eBay for £10-20. You can then use the drum from those machines to repair yours.

I'm sorry I can't give you better news. I feel like I'm letting down the public when manufacturers build in obsolescence like this. I hope you manage to find a drum. Have a good day.
