Diplomat APM8620 Tumble Dryer Drum Spider Sounds Very Loud
Hi there, I saw a video on your YouTube channel and wanted to ask for your expert advice. I have Diplomat APM8620 Tumble Dryer. The spider on the drum that connects to the bearing appears have a lot of movement between itself and the drum, its started to make a worrying loud knocking sound. The spider is connected to the drum via what i can only describe as bolts with no way to tightened them. I wanted to find out if you think it would work if i drilled through the bolts and replaced with heat resistant nuts and bolts. Or essentially the moment the drum comes away from the bracket the days are numbered and there are not options out there? My concerns are that if i replace the fixed pins with nuts and bolts, would they get loose over time due to the rotary motion when the dryer is being used. I would be very grateful to hear from you on this query. PS - i also have a white knight integrated vented tumble dryer with the same issue.
I will try and help with this problem about Diplomat APM8620 Tumble Dryer
Diplomat was usually a brand linked with MFI or Howdens. From what I've discovered, this Diplomat tumble dryer is actually a White Knight tumble dryer, just branded differently. The bearing kit shaft is made of steel, but there's a phosphorous bronze bush that acts as the bearing.
The issue arises if you try to replace it and make your own; it will generate a lot of heat, steel on steel. So, you really need to create some type of bearing for support.
I've included a link below to some White Knight bearing kits that are available. One of these might be the right one for your machine, but I don't have any exploded diagrams or part numbers for this tumble dryer, sorry. White Knight has stopped manufacturing machines, but some spares are still available.
Check the link and see if any of them match your bearing kit. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
