Candy CDI 1LS 38S-80/T Dishwasher’s Initial Fill OK But Then Not Going to Wash

Hi Graeme, sorry to hear about your problem with the Candy CDI 1LS 38S-80 Dishwasher,

If there is water in the base of the machine, normally about one or 2 cm over the stainless steel then you have sufficient water in the machine. It is quite common for the motors to seize due to corrosion on the bearing. You would normally hear a slight humming sound from the motor but this can be checked on some of the motors. There is a screw at the back which you are able to turn the armature sometimes this freeze up the bearing for a short period of time but if water has managed to get through to one of the bearings, it will cause the motor to seize.

It is possible to bench test the motor if you take it off and it is well worth making sure the capacitor is working correctly as this will also stop the motor turning. You will also be able to do a voltage check on the motor to make sure it is getting the correct voltage 240 or 220 depending on where you are in the world when the motor is an operation.
