I don't think the button or cable itself is worn out. It's more likely that the door lock or push button mechanism is faulty. Sometimes, the plastic on the button wears out, making it sloppy and hard to open the door easily. There are also views of the door assembly, so you might have an issue with the pecker pin or spring.

Without seeing the machine, it's hard to give precise assistance. One of these components has probably become loose, causing your trouble.
