Beko WTL82051W Washing Machine Motor Doesn’t Work

June 03, 2024
Customer Question

Hello all at How-to-repair.comI bought my Beko WTL82051W washing machine on 04-02-2023, and it has been working well, and is economical. Untill This week! Perhaps it realised the guarantee had not long run out, and it decided to go on strike, with no main motor function at all. I have been studying your videos, and have learned lots of stuff that I didn' know previously, so thanks for that.I have followed your Error codes and Diagnostics videos, and my results are baffling. I followed the sequence as per video closely, and got all the Leds' to light up in all three columns, The Leds' were not flashing, but all were on conrtinuously. I pressed start again to move through to the next test, expecting the drum to revolve clockwise, but nothing happened, except that there was a soft clunk from the rear of the machine, and the drum moved about an inch, and then stopped. I cannot proceed further with the the tests, and have to move the program knob to Off, to exit that mode, At no time did I see any error code in the spin column. The leds in the right hand column behaved as expected. The good news is that the pump & filter is OK, as is the door lock, water fill, and pressure switch. I took the motor PCB out and examined it closely, but there is no visual evidence of anything wrong, no burn marks or tracks. I noticed a small relay on the board, and connected a PP9 battery across the coil pins, hoping to hear it click, but that was inconclusive, I tested the wires from the module to the motor for continuety, and they were OK. I also took out the Main PCB at the front, and that seemed ok visually, At least all the connectors have been taken out and replaced, and are seated correctly.I put it all back together, and it is still the same, no motor movement, except for that very small kick mentioned above. So I;m back to square one. There may be a clue in the fact that when I went to empty the machine, I found it had 'walked' a couple of inches from its normal resting place, and had stopped in the middle of a spin cycle, I believe it had started to spin with an unbalanced load, The water remaining in the drum was still soapy, so it had not reached the rinse part of the cycle. Just info that may be useful.I am suspicious of some component failure on the motor control module, but I do not have the knowledge to test to that level, I suppose I could just buy a new board, but they are expensive, and may not fix the problem. This is why I am writing today, to ask if you have had seen anything similar in your experience and knowledge.I would be most grateful if you could have a think about this, and if possible get back to me with any advice or information. Thanks for taking the time to read this.Kind regards,Roger Merralls.

I will try and help with this problem about Beko WTL82051W Washing Machine,

Good morning Roger,

Thank you for your email and apologies for the delay in my response.

After examining the Pacifics, I found that this machine has a brushless motor, which is a three-phase motor. It is controlled by the circuit board or control module at the bottom. These modules often fail.

I have gathered some details on the motor and the circuit board, along with the full test procedure for you. I hope this information helps.

Also, you will find a PDF with the test procedures for the circuit board and motor.

Brushless motor is used. Motor stator consists of 3-phase coil and magnets are on the rotor. Rotor position is detected from askoll-type hall sensor, stator windings are enegized with the help of an inverter. In Orka version, Rotor position is detected without using hall sensor and stator windings are enegized with the help of an inverter. Along with the main board, there is an askoll-type motor driver card integrated on the motor. However, motor card is discrete in Orka type. While the motor and the motor card can give service separately in Orka type, service can be given in groups in the Askoll type as the motor and the motor card are integrated. Motor speed is provided through communication of the motor card and the main board with each other. Main board is the prevailing unit; what the motor reference speed will be is determined by the main board. However, all other control algorithms required for motor drive are realized by the motor driver card. While the motor speed measurement is performed with the help of hall sensor in askoll type, speed is detected thanks to software in atlas type without using an additional sensor. Under abbnormal conditions (such as permanently locked rotor), protection of the motor from overheating is controlled by the motor card software. Also, locked rotor condition is detected by the software to ensure protection
