Customer Question

James McOliver asks:

Hi Paul,I'm having an issue with my Beko BBAIF22300X electric single oven. It no longer heats up as it should. I set the temperature and timer like I always do, but the oven doesn’t get hot. The fan and internal light are working, so it’s definitely receiving power, but there’s no heat.I’ve inspected all the wiring and everything appears to be in order. I’ve also tried switching between cooking modes and even reset the oven, but nothing has made a difference.Could you help me figure out what might be wrong?

Paul Says:

I will try and help with this problem about Beko BBAIF22300X Oven,

Even though the power is on, there are a few potential reasons why your oven isn’t getting hot. The most common cause is a faulty fan oven heating element. This element is what actually produces the heat. If it’s damaged or has burned out, the oven won’t be able to heat up even if the fan and light still work.

Another possibility is a faulty thermostat. The thermostat controls the oven’s temperature, and if it’s not working correctly, the oven might stay cold or take far too long to heat. A broken thermostat might incorrectly sense the temperature and prevent the oven from turning on the heating element.

Start by checking the fan oven element. Your model uses an 1800-watt element. You can test it using a multimeter either by measuring resistance with Ohm’s Law Calculator or simply performing a continuity test across the two terminals. If there’s no continuity (open circuit), the element needs to be replaced.

You can refer to the exploded diagram below to locate the fan oven element. Use the reference number from the diagram to find the correct replacement part. You can order a new fan oven element with this link.

If the element tests fine, the problem may be with power getting to it. Check whether the thermostat is passing power through. Power should go in and come out of the thermostat until the set temperature is reached, at which point it disconnects.

Another thing to look at is the selector switch. If it has a burnt connection, it can interrupt power flow. This often happens if the thermostat is adjusted before the selector switch is correctly set. Always set the function first, then the temperature. You can usually spot damage to the selector switch with a visual inspection. Here is the link for a new selector switch.

There’s also a chance the timer relay isn’t working, which would stop power from reaching the heating circuit. If the relay is open circuit, it won’t activate the heating element.

In summary, check the following in this order:

  1. Inspect the fan oven heating element for damage and test it for continuity.

  2. Check the thermostat with a multimeter to make sure it's working correctly.

  3. Even though you’ve looked at the wiring, consider having a technician do a deeper inspection.

  4. If everything else seems fine, the problem might lie with the control board or timer relay.

Most of the time, the fan oven element is the issue, so that’s the best place to start. I’ve included a workshop manual and some helpful videos below to guide you through the process. All part numbers and diagrams are listed as well.

In the video, I mentioned about 5 common problems.;

  1. Oven will not heat because the element is faulty.
  2. Oven won't heat because timer on manual.
  3. Oven won't heat because of a fault with thermostat or selector switch.
  4. Oven not cooking evenly (one element faulty or fan not working correctly).
  5. Oven not reaching temperature normally an element but possible fan motor.

Coomon Problems with Electrical Ovens

  • The oven will not turn on

The first thing you need to check is that the oven timer is not on auto if it is, turn it on to manual.

  • No Heat in Oven

If the fan is running and the thermostat light comes on but you get no heat (or just the thermostat light on in non-fan ovens and cookers) then the probability is that the fan element or oven elements have failed.

  • Electricity trips (Rcd) when I turn the oven on or grill

This is normally an element that has gone to earth, This is a well-known fault with electric ovens, the insulation breaks down in the elements and trips the RCD , best way is to stick a meter on each element and check that they have not got earth leaks on them. But this can also be a wiring fault.

  • The grill element doesn't work

This would usually indicate that the grill element is faulty. Check these: Grill element, Oven changeover switch, Overheat thermostat, Main oven thermostat, if used to regulate the grill temperature.

  • The oven fan is not working or spinning correctly (slow) or is noisy

The fan motor may need to be replaced see video on this also the cooling fan motor can cause same problems.

  • The oven overheats and burns everything

Normally this is a simple thermostat failure which would manifest itself as this symptom.

  • The oven or cooker cuts out after it's been on for a while

This is an overheating problem which can be caused by the fan motor or main oven thermostat or a faulty safety thermostat that will be causing the problem. It can also be caused by a failure of the cooling fan, where fitted, but usually these go noisy before failing, Safety thermostats are used to prevent the oven or cooker overheating and will shut the oven down.
