Heat pump dryers take longer to dry clothes because they don’t use a traditional heating system. Instead, they generate heat through a refrigeration process. The compressor circulates gas through two coils at the bottom left side. One coil heats the air entering the machine, and as the air returns through the condenser, the pipes are cold. This coldness collects moisture from the air, turning it into liquid that gets pumped to a container.

You might have a blockage in these coils. Fluff can build up because it sticks to the cold pipes, reducing airflow over time and making the machine take longer to dry clothes. Many people don't use heat pump dryers correctly. It’s important to let them run through their full cycle to dry both the clothes and the internal pipework. The filter should catch fluff, but if not maintained well, fluff can reach the pipes and cause blockages.

It's worth stripping down the machine to ensure it's clear of blockages. Cleaning can be tedious, and you need to be careful not to damage any pipework or fins, which could cause gas issues. Since your clothes are heating, it seems the refrigerant is working on the high side but not cooling on the low side, suggesting a possible blockage.
